It's Monday Again

The weekends seem so long. Bob doesn't work on the weekends, so I don't have anyone here. Sue calls me both days to check in. Sometimes Judith will come for a visit, but usually she comes during the week. So I spend my time reading, doing puzzles, doing some house cleaning, and sometimes working a little outdoors on my garden.

Monday is always good. Bob arrives around 8 am. Sue comes later and brings lunch. Monday is the day that Sue works at the community garden, so we often have fresh vegetables that she stirfrys or steams along with fresh eggs, also from the garden's chickens.

My earache seems to be gone. But I have to medicate it for the next week. I don't want it to come back. I have a hard time sleeping when it does.

The sun is shining today and it is breezy.  A perfect day for drying clothes. So I did two loads of laundry and put it out on the line. The first load was dry by the time the second load was ready to come out of the washer.

The puzzle I am working on is a very hard one. It is called Birds and Butterflies but there is only one bird and zero butterflies. Funny name. The puzzle is very difficult. I have done it three or four times before, but I think this will be my last time with this one. It isn't fun to do. The pieces don't stick together very well so it falls apart when I try to move sections around. And the picture is of a painting, so the colors and lines are sometimes hard to follow. Time to retire this one. Ill have Sue take it to the town market on Wednesday and put it on the table to raise money for the hospital.

Chop That Grass!

I have been very annoyed with a type of grass the has been growing in the yard near the clothes line. Sue says it is called guinea grass.  I call it that damn grass. It grows ten times faster than the rest of the grass. It gets tall and grows in thick clumps, I'm afraid that I will trip over it. I asked Pam, the person who cuts the grass and trims the bushes, to spray it with round- up. Well, she sprayed alright, but she missed the clumps mostly.

I finally got fed up with it today and took my handpick and chopped the clumps out.It took me most the morning. I  got almost every big clump out. Even the ones by the fence.

I'm tired now. Sue brought lunch today, a nice chicken vegetable soup. I shared some of my lunch with Carmen, my dog. She begs a little but is really very polite. I like to spoil her, a little.

After lunch I plan to work on a new jigsaw puzzle called Birds and Butterflies.

Wednesday

Today started out very sunny, but by lunch it became cloudy. It got chilly enough that I had to close all my windows. We do not usually get days like this.

My amaryllis bulbs are blooming again. Everyone tells me that they only bloom once a year, but I get them to bloom off and on almost continuously. They only take a rest period in November for a month or so. The red ones don't bloom as often as the orange ones. If I keep them well watered and fertilized, they do fabulously. I have a special one blooming right now, a pink striped one.

I have one large bush with blue flowers that blooms almost continuously all year long. I think it is called a plumbago. There were no flowers or bushes when I started renting this house, but now it is very beautiful. I have amaryllis, hibiscus, orchids, plumbago, and several other very pretty bushes that I don't know the name of. I still like to garden. And indoors I have a peach colored Christmas cactus that blooms every year.

Because of all my friends bringing me plants, my place looks like a florist shop sometimes. One friend brings me flower arrangements that she makes in a flower class that she attends. They are beautiful.

email for Linda & Michael, Morgan, and Kevin?

If you know their emails could you let them know about my blog. Sue sent an email to Linda but the address was an old one, so we don't know if she got it.

Monday - Ken and Blanche

This will be great to be able to talk with you this way. I'm doing well as long as I stay away from the centipedes. I've killed two in the house since that last one bite me. Sue gave me a can of insect spray to kill them with from a distance. It works.

How are the two of you doing now? Keep well so that you can live top be as old as I am. It is hereditary, so I hear.

Is the weather cold there now? It is cold in the morning here this time of year, but by 9 am it is warm again. I still miss the snow. Bob and Sue don't.

Love, Mom

Monday - To Amy

Hi Amy! So good to hear from you. I can't imagine how big Caden is by now.

It must be mental telepathy because I was just wondering if Angel was still alive. I've been thinking of it all week. I had her about three years before I gave her to you. Sue says that they live about 20 years in captivity. I miss her. I'm glad that you're taking such good care of her. Thank you!

I'm still very active. I do my own house work, cooking, gardening, etc. I guess I've never learned how to grow old.

After 22 years my cat Ashley died. There was a dog whose owner died, so the dog needed a home. So I adopted her. She is easy to take care of, very loving, and a good watch dog. She is 12 years old so we are growing old together. Her name is Carmen. She was named by her previous owner. She is a short haired mix breed dog, about 20 pounds. She looks like a terrier mix of some sort. Of course she insists sleeping on the blanket at the bottom of my bed. Luckily I have a double bed. So there is plenty of room for the two of us. She's a very intelligent dog, so she learned to go to bed as soon as the light is turned off. I don't have to walk her, I just put her on a line by my back door three times a day, and she is perfect.

Love, Grandmom

Went to Doctor

Bob convinced me to go back to the doctor for my ear.  During the day it doesn't bother much, but at night it keeps me from being able to sleep. So I now have different medication to use. Today I am feeling much better. I even did the laundry!

I finished the lighthouse jigsaw puzzle this morning. It looks very pretty. There is one piece missing, so I won't keep this one. It will go onto the donation table at the market where they raise money for our local hospital.

This afternoon I tied up oneof my hibiscus bushes. The stems are about five feet long and are spawling about in every direction. So I used some old clothes line and tied the branches to the picket fence. Now they stand up nicely. When I I'd this I saw hat he bush had bugs on tips of the branches. Maybe mites or aphids. So I mixed up a bucket of soapy water and doused the branches well. That should take care of the bugs for now.

Tuesday

My earache isn't bothering me as much, but it is still there. I hope it goes away soon. But at least I was able to sleep last night.

Yesterday it rained quite a bit and today it is cloudy. This will help keep the ground moist. The grass already looks greener today.

My jigsaw puzzle is about 3/4 done. This one is hard but I can look on the picture and figure it out. Some puzzles have small or blurry pictures. Those I cannot do. I like this lighthouse puzzle, so maybe I will keep it and do it again. Some of my puzzles I have done 6-7 times already.

Today I did the wash. I can still hang it out and fold it myself. Not bad for an old lady. I like doing the wash. It gives me something to do.

The batteries on my old telephones were going bad. They did not last long and cut off my phone calls sometimes. Sue bought me a new set from Costco. She set them up yesterday. So now I have new telephones. I keep the main one in the kitchen, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The last two I keep on the floor in case I should fall down and not be able to get up. At least I could crawl to the phone and call 911.

I am looking forward to talking with people on my blog. I know it will take time for people to find it. I will wait.

Sunny Monday

It rained here over the weekend but it is nice and sunny now today. We really needed the rain because everything was so dry. Now I won't have to water my plants for the next week. I have some very pretty flowering plants that people have given me. Two very different and striking hibiscus, several orchids, a tri-colored snow on the mountain bush, a blue plumbago bush, and dozens of amaryllis.

I still have my earache but it only seems to bother me at night when I am trying to sleep. Bob brought me a triangle wedge, so tonight I will try propping myself on that for sleeping. I hope it makes a difference.

The jigsaw puzzle I am working on is all lighthouses. It is difficult but interesting. Every lighthouse is different. I use a small magnifying glass so that I can look for the little differences between the lighthouses.

Friday

I am glad to be able to talk with everybody now. I hope everyone finally finds out what my blog address is.

Today I feel really good. I am very active for my age. And I feel that I will live to be 100!

I do my own housework still. And some gardening. Yesterday I used a small handpick and dug a hole. I was then able to plant a small tree that a friend gave to me. It i dry , so I will have to drag the hose around and give the plant a drink.

I still like to bake. I sometimes bake a cake or a pie to sell at the local farmers market. Everybody seems to enjoy it. And I make a lot of friends that way.

I haven't had to go to the doctor for almost a year, but today I woke up with an earache. So Bob took me to the doctor. Sue is driving to Pahala this afternoon to pick up the prescription medicine. It's nothing serious, so it should go away quickly.

Thanks to everyone I had a nice Christmas and New Years. Except for the firecrackers on New Years Eve all night upsetting my dog.

Something New

Hi everyone! This is a new experience for me. I am learning how to blog. I hope that I am learning!

My daughter has created this blog so that I can keep in touch with my children and grandchildern......and greatgrandchildren!

Today in Naalehu, Hawaii it is windy, but sunny. A really nice day out. But I am indoors most of the time and spend my free time doing jigsaw puzzles. I like the 500 piece puzzles the best. And of those, I like colorful ones and cartoon types.

So I will call some of you to let you know that I now have a blog. Please let everyone else know how to find me. My blog address is naalehufran.blogspot.com
